Halloween Chocolates (Hotel Chocolat)

There's more to Halloween confectionery than fun size multipacks marketed for trick-or-treat. Some retailers make the effort to produce sweets that are far too nice to hand out to kids. One of my favourites is Hotel Chocolat.

I was supposed be ordering Christmas presents - and maybe a little something for us - but I got a bit distracted when I spotted the reduced Halloween H-box on their website. I couldn't resist grabbing a selection of spooky-themed goodies. I bought a couple of white chocolate skull-shaped lollipops, a milk chocolate hollow pumpkin and some milk chocolates in the shape of skulls, cats, gravestones and bats etc. I also got some white chocolate and caramel 'Oozy Eyes': gently gouged from organically farmed, free-range zombies according to the packaging.

Hotel Chocolat goes the extra mile with its Halloween theming, unlike many food companies (see my article about Halloween-Themed Food). Maybe this is because they occupy a slightly more premium area of the market and need to demonstrate their quality? The attention to detail is great; I especially like the 'DEATH BY CHOCOLATE' inscription on the gravestone.

Halloween is over, but the retailers - especially those with consumable goods - still have themed stock they need to sell this year. If you're like me, and enjoy spooky things all year round, take advantage of discounts in November. Hotel Chocolat heavily discount their Halloween chocolates after the event but you'll have to be quick as they sell out fast.

I've eaten some of the chocolates I bought, and I can report that they were really nice. Also - if my husband reads this - at the time of writing there are plenty left; I haven't scoffed them all... yet.
